how to use evernote to make planning more attractive main pic

Wish you could see your Evernote to-dos side-by-side with life’s million other tasks? Well, if you know how to use Evernote, you’ll be amazed at how simple it is to get them all in a single view.

Evernote is a great medium for journaling, writing, goal-tracking, and general planning. It can capture inspiration, get thoughts out of your head, and help you turn rugged patches of words into polished jaw-dropping articles.

It can also facilitate weekly reviews, track progress on goals, and help you become more productive.

Since being introduced to Evernote in 2010, the software has led me to some major personal breakthroughs and transformed the way I get things done.

In my early years of Evernote, I used the app for bookmarks, research, the occasional journaling and blog post drafts, and for tracking health metrics like body fat percentage. Over the years, though, it became a hub for both creativity and productivity – for breakthroughs and for tracking goals.

My time management system has always been separate, though, primarily because my tasks come from multiple sources:

  • Gmail
  • Evernote
  • The occasional honey-do from my wife…

It all had to eventually end up in Todoist.

So when I came up with on-the-fly tasks while planning or doing my weekly reviews, I had to do a lot of switching between Evernote and my task manager Todoist. I found a few ways to get things done faster, but it became quite the administrative chore.

The Discovery of Pleexy

In late 2018, I found a pretty neat app that drastically simplified my planning. This tool made my weekly reviews easier.

It allowed me to create a list of tasks within a note, add a designated tag, and then automatically shoot those tasks over to Todoist without ever leaving Evernote.

When I got emails in Gmail, I experienced something similar. When starring an email, I was able to automatically convert emails to tasks within Todoist.

Talk about a time saver!

The app I’m referring to, of course, is Pleexy – a tool that auto-channels tasks from email managers and note-taking services like Evernote into task managers like Todoist or Wunderlist.

It’s a free tool with minimal setup and channels tasks from a large variety of sources. Not only that, but it sets up a two-synchronization between your task source and your task manager, meaning that changes to a task in one app are automatically reflected on the other.

It only took me a few minutes to setup within Pleexy and then a couple more minutes to test in Evernote and Gmail. It was a beauty to see in action.

How to Use Evernote and Pleexy to Auto-Push Tasks into Todoist

Want to create tasks in Evernote and have them automatically push to Todoist without having to open the Todoist app?

Here’s the Pleexy tutorial on how to set it up:

Once you’ve got it setup, here’s how you test it out, assuming you know the basics on how to use Evernote:

Step 1. Open Evernote

step 1 - open evernote

Step 2. Create a checkbox task in a new note or existing note

step 2 - create checkbox in evernote

Step 3. Add your designated Pleexy label to the note

step 3 - add pleexy label to evernote

Step 4. Hit F9 (Sync) or go Tools > Sync

step 4 - sync evernote

Once you’ve synchronized in Evernote, give it a couple minutes, then hop over to your Todoist inbox and check out the new tasks. From here, you just need to edit the task inline, let Todoist pick up the project, labels, and times, then click Save and it’ll show up in the corresponding filters.

When you complete these in Evernote, you can go back to Evernote and see these checkboxes checked in the note they were created in. Pretty cool, right?

With Pleexy automatically channeling my tasks from Evernote and Gmail into Todoist, I’ve been able to transition tasks faster from creation to manifestation. Ideas no longer remain just ideas. Potential becomes reality. And there’s less administrative overhead, which means making faster progress on goals for health and fitness, your career, business, or the new skill you’re trying to learn.
